🏑 Chesterfield Engineering Firm Offers Free Home Safety Checkups for Good Neighbor Day πŸ”Žβœ¨

A Chesterfield business is celebrating National Good Neighbor Day by helping local homeowners make sure their homes are safe and structurally sound.

Open Concept Engineering, a Chesterfield-based structural engineering firm, is offering free one-hour structural safety consultations to qualifying Chesterfield homeowners from October 1–10. The checkups are available for homes under 2,000 square feet and will look at common concerns such as visible foundation cracks, sagging floors and questions about load-bearing walls.

The initiative highlights the idea that being a good neighbor can extend to looking out for the homes and properties that make up the community. The company recently pointed to a project on Baxter Ridge Lane where a structural assessment helped identify a potentially costly foundation problem.

Appointments are limited, and Chesterfield homeowners interested in participating can contact the company or mention β€œGood Neighbor Day” when scheduling online.

It’s a unique way for a local business to celebrate Good Neighbor Dayβ€”by helping Chesterfield residents take a closer look at the place they call home. πŸ πŸ’š

🚧 Chesterfield Pushes Back on Plan That Could Shift County Road Costs to the City

Chesterfield city leaders are taking a stand against a potential change that could leave the city responsible for maintaining more local roads.

The city has passed a resolution formally opposing any effort by St. Louis County to transfer responsibility for county-owned roads to municipalities without their consent. The possibility comes as the county considers ways to address an ongoing budget deficit.

Chesterfield already maintains approximately 186 miles of roadway, and city officials say taking responsibility for county roads could increase that workload by about 20% β€” potentially bringing additional costs for Chesterfield taxpayers.

St. Louis County Executive Sam Page indicated that local road maintenance remains among the options being considered as county leaders work through their budget challenges. The issue could also affect services such as road repairs and winter weather treatment.

For now, Chesterfield’s resolution makes the city’s position clear: county roads should not become the city’s responsibility without Chesterfield agreeing to the change. πŸš§πŸ™οΈ
