Northview High School recently recognized 18 students during its first Character Education Breakfast of the 2026–27 school year. The students were celebrated for demonstrating the school's Eagle Pride through their best effort, respect, and responsibility. Principal Brian O'Conner and Assistant Principal Mark Sharp presented the honorees with certificates, Northview merchandise, and school store cash as family members and friends joined them for breakfast.
Students may be nominated for demonstrating growth in areas such as independence, friendship, confidence, and movement, as well as achievement in core subjects including math and English. One student, junior Aiden Powers, was recognized for his progress in Algebra 1. The school plans to continue the tradition with its next Character Education Breakfast on January 20, offering another opportunity to recognize students' everyday efforts and accomplishments.

The Special Education Foundation (SEF) is accepting nominations for its fourth annual Starfish Awards, which celebrate individuals whose compassion and dedication make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with disabilities. The awards recognize people throughout the Special School District community, including educators, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, administrators, volunteers, and community partners who go above and beyond to help students feel supported and reach their potential.
Inspired by the Starfish Parable, the awards recognize how even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. The 2027 celebration is scheduled for June 11 at The Reverie STL in Chesterfield. Nominations are open through December 20, 2026, giving families and community members an opportunity to recognize someone whose everyday efforts deserve to be celebrated.

Arch Grants has introduced its 2026 startup cohort, awarding a combined $1.35 million to 16 companies working across a range of industries. The St. Louis nonprofit provides equity-free grants of $75,000 to selected startups, with additional relocation funding available for qualifying companies moving to the region. This year's recipients were selected from nearly 70 finalists and are developing ideas in areas including agriculture, health care, medical technology, artificial intelligence, and sustainable materials.
Among the companies receiving support are NeuroFore, which is developing technology to help physicians identify early signs of Parkinson's disease, and EvoNatura, a biotechnology company working on ways to improve the breakdown of discarded plastics. Another recipient, Amass Biosystems, is developing crops intended to provide farmers with additional revenue opportunities through bioenergy. The new cohort reflects the range of ideas being developed and attracted to the St. Louis region, with the grants intended to help founders build their companies and continue their work locally.
