Students from across the Rockwood School District are getting a seat at the table and an opportunity to share their perspectives directly with district leaders.
On September 3, the Rockwood Board of Education held its first Student Advisory Group meeting of the 2026β2027 school year at the Administrative Annex ahead of the regularly scheduled Board meeting.
Created through the Boardβs Communications, Outreach and Public Engagement (COPE) Committee, the group brings together juniors and seniors from Eureka, Lafayette, Marquette and Rockwood Summit high schools, along with students from the Pathways Wellness Center.
The meetings give Board members an opportunity to hear directly from students about their experiences, ideas and perspectives while strengthening communication between district leadership and the students they serve.
Itβs a chance for Rockwood students to help make their voices heardβand play a role in conversations about their schools and community. ππ
π Leave the Leaves This Fall β Your Yard & Local Wildlife Will Thank You π±π¦

Before you grab the rake and start filling those lawn bags, consider letting nature handle some of the cleanup this fall. Leaving fallen leaves in your yard can provide surprising benefits for your lawn, garden and local wildlife.
Fallen leaves act as a natural mulch, gradually returning nutrients to the soil while helping retain moisture and suppress weeds. Instead of hauling them away, leaves can become part of a healthier backyard ecosystem. π±
Theyβre also valuable habitat. Fireflies, butterflies, native bees and other wildlife can depend on fallen leaves for food, shelter and protection during different stages of their life cycles. π¦π
The idea is simple: less bagging, less hauling and more habitat. You donβt necessarily have to leave every leaf exactly where it fallsβconsider moving leaves into garden beds, around shrubs or other areas where they can naturally break down.
One important tip: when placing leaves around trees, keep them a few inches away from the trunk rather than piling them directly against it.
So before you rake it all away this fall, consider giving some of those leaves a new job. Leave the leaves! ππβ¨
